Many Leaders Don't Value Marketing: Why? - Forbes

It's always good to discuss the value of Marketing and how it's viewed across the organization.

Veritone Surges 10%: They’re the ‘Real Deal,’ Claims Roth

I've been looking to invest in Artificial Intelligence over the past few months. I came across a company named Veritone (symbol: VERI) last week and decided to invest. It turned out to be a good investment, but the ride has been extremely wild…..very volatile and likely will continue to be for some time.

I encourage everyone to invest at their own risk, but to keep a low risk tolerance as much as possible. There's been some negative publicity involving VERI and the article I'm sharing is sort of a rebuttle to the bad press.

Enjoy!

Equifax Data Breach

I came across a good article on the Equifax security breach that I wanted to share. Click here to read the article that I will shortly summarize. But first, here's what happened:

• Hackers exploited a vulnerability in their website (mid-May thru July 2017)
• Company discovered the security breach on July 29th 2017
• 143M US based users information was compromised, which included:
    - Name and Address
    - Social Security number
    - Driver's License number
    - Birth dates
• 209k Credit Card numbers accessed
•182k dispute documentation and/or personally identifiable records accessed
• No reported loss for non-domestic accounts

Here's what the company is doing about it:

• Hired cyber-security firm to further investigate and scope out the intrusion
• Providing Free Identity Theft Protection and Credit Monitor services
    - Get more information and signup here
• Freezing Credit Accounts per customers requests
    - Call 1-800-349-9960 to request a credit freeze

Of course, many people are concerned about their credit being hijacked and are wondering what's being done about it and how to go about protecting themselves. The article delves into these concerns and drives home the fact that the process for requesting a credit freeze is failing; both online and with their call center. What's more is that the company initially charged consumers to freeze their accounts. That's like giving out both a slap in the face and rubbing salt in the wound!!

Considering the magnitude of this issue, the company's failed services in response and their lack of empathy for consumers, some folks are looking to sue. If you're one of those people, I came across this article that claims a chatbot can help consumers take legal action with a lawyer and for up to a request of $25,000 in damages.

See the video here:

There's always more to the story, especially with banks and credit institutions. But until they release more information, everyone should take some precaution and at least inquire about whether they were affected. Financial Website - Mint.com

Searching applications one day on my I-Phone I stumbled upon Mint.com (www.mint.com), which I recommend for anyone trying to take control of their finances. It provides my complete financil picture on-the-go!

The site allows you to create and track a budget by adding online financial accounts. It operates much like Quickbooks from Quicken. It links into any account where there's money to be tracked, including but not limited to; Checking, Savings, Brokerage, Mortgage, Student Loan, 401k and Credit accounts.

What intrigues me most about the site is it's ability to make recommendations on how to save in interest and/or fees based upon what it knows about the user's situation. In addition, it provides account alerts and details on most any transaction along with a real-time view of your Net Worth, all for free!

With all of the great features Mint currently offers, they are in the early stages of Beta testing a planning application that I know will knock my socks off at the extremely low price of $0.00.

If loading your financial information on the Web makes you uncomfortable, add a low-end account to start and periodically check it, and your credit reports, for fraudulent activity.

What's in a Name (Freak Show exerpt)?

Author: Stephanie Flowers

Okay, this is the discussion and how it went on the Freak Show

Orlando was talking about a name he had never heard that was for a
"black" person.
Gordie said, dang she ain't gonna never get into college.
Orlando said, "yes, she will".
Gordie said, "not an Ivy league" college.
Orlando said, "I think she could if her grades are good and she does
real good on the SAT".

My 2 cents.....
The sad truth out there is that no matter how we would like the world to be, the reality is that it's cruel and full and racism. And although we should never forget who we are and where we come from, our kids need all the help they can get in leveling the playing field and in terms of getting opportunity.

I've seen it too many times where people get stereotyped from the name on their resume. And if it's a bad stereotype, you can bet the resume goes straight to the garbage.
